Benefits cheat had two husbands

A benefits cheat from who illegally pocketed GBP45,000 while living with two separate husbands has been warned to expect a prison sentence.

Helen Millard from Willenhall, West Mids, failed to declare she spent two years married and living with one man followed by a further four years with another.

The 44-year-old appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court yesterday (TUE), when she was warned by District Judge Graham Wilkinson to expect a prison term when she returns to court to be sentenced later this month.

Prosecutor Nayan Patel told the court that Millard amassed some of the money while living with Patrick Mannion between 2002 and 2004.

Further illegal claims were also made while she lived with Nigel Evans between 2006 and 2010.

Millard pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to notify change of circumstances and her case was adjourned for sentencing to June 6.

Meanwhile, the court also prosecuted 58-year-old Anne Dudley, who received GBP14,999 in income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit despite having more than GBP26,000 in her own bank accounts.

Gurdeep Gill, defending, said Dudley of, Ettingshall, West Mids, racked-up her savings by “frugal living”.

The court heard she had paid back all but about GBP5,000 of the money claimed between 2004 and 2010. She admitted two offences of failing to notify change of circumstances.

District Judge Wilkinson ordered Dudley to pay GBP1,800 in compensation as well as GBP100 costs. She will also have to remain indoors between 7pm and 6am for eight weeks.
