Teacher brothers both convicted of child porn

TWO teacher brothers who worked at nearby primary schools and still live with their mother have both been convicted of child porn offences.

Former assistant headmaster Christopher Davis – who has more than 20-years experience in the profession – was jailed for having more than 11,000 child porn images on Friday.

Meanwhile his brother Timothy, 38, escaped a jail sentence last month after he admitted downloading nearly 150 indecent images of children while he worked at Monkspath Junior and Infants School near Solihull, West Mids.  He was sentenced at Warwick Justice Centre on March 9 and given a three-year community rehabilitation order

Older brother Christopher, 44, of Solihull, West Mids, had pictures of nine and 10-year-old girls changing for sports lessons or bending over in the classroom – some of which from schools where he had worked, a court heard.

He pleaded guilty at Leamington Justice Centre to 11 charges of making indecent images of children and was jailed for 14-months.

The court heard the majority of the images were downloaded but some were taken at a school where Davis worked.

Prosecuting, Charles Gardner said some were of girls changing in the classroom into their sports kits and one was a slow motion video taken during a school trip where a girl gets changed on the beach.

Another was taken during an art lesson and the camera was zooming in on girls when they leaned over.

Others were innocent pictures of girls taken with their knowledge, but a caption was later added and their images manipulated on a computer to make them pornographic, Mr Gardner told the court.

At the time of his arrest, Davis was assistant headteacher at St Patrick’s Church of England Junior School in Solihull and had been a teacher for more than 20 years.

He was arrested at the home he shared with his mother and brother last August.
Police found “a substantial amount of computers and allied equipment” and when  examined were found to contain more than 11,000 photographs and moving images of child pornography across all levels one to five.

Michael Duck QC, defending, said Davis “admitted what he has done and realises he needs help.”

He said: “This is a man who has worked in this environment for many years. But that which excites his interest has remained a fantasy and there has not been a physical manifestation of it.”

Jailing him, Judge Richard Griffith-Jones, said: “For over 20 years you had a successful career as a teacher.

“It was an honourable profession, a profession in which people trust the welfare of their children.”

He told Davis: “I have to take into account the public’s confidence – confidence that is necessary when they send their children to school to be looked after by other adults.

“It is bad enough and damaging to that confidence for them to think that the people who are looking after them are committing criminal offences by downloading material which involves the humiliation and exploitation of children.

“It is so much worse when their own children have been made the subject of images which are then going to be used by you for your sexual gratification.”

As well as being jailed, he was also ordered to be on Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and banned from working with children under the age of 18 for 10 years.
