Tragedy as schoolgirl dies after trampolining lesson

THIS is the first picture of tragic schoolgirl Lily Webster who died on Monday after collapsing during a trampolining lesson.

The 15-year-old, who studied at Stowmarket High School in Suffolk, was taking part in a session at the Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre when she suddenly complained of head pains following a somersault.

She then collapsed in front of horrified pupils and teachers and despite the best efforts o paramedics and staff, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager is not believed to have died from an impact injury, and may have suffered a brain haemorrhage or cardiac arrest.

Friends and teachers have paid tribute to Lily, a girl who always had a “beautiful smile” on her face.

Paying tribute on social networking website Facebook, Gemma Louise Macdonald said: “RIP Lily Webster. You are such a stunning and amazing girl. I never saw you in a bad mood, you always had that beautiful smile on your face. You’re missed by so many already! Sleep tight – thoughts go out to your family.”

Jack Alderton said: “RIP Lily. I only spoke to her a few times – she was probably too young to remember me but she was a truly beautiful person.

“It’s so sad that such a special life was cut so short. My thoughts go out to her family and friends.

Keith Penn, the school’s headteacher, said the Year 11 student would be “desperately missed”.

“The whole Stowmarket High School community is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden death of a 15-year-old, Year 11 girl, Lily Webster on Monday afternoon,” he added.

“Popular, active, bright and with a very wide circle of friends, Lily will be desperately missed by students and staff at the school and all those who know her.

“All our thoughts and prayers are with her family and close friends at this time.”

A special RIP site dedicated to Lily has been set up on Facebook, with the creator writing: “Lily Webster, a young girl who was so unfortunate to loose her life on the 16/01/12. She was so beautiful, and had the lovelist smile ever, she never said a bad word about anyone, and never seemed to be down when people would see her.

“At just 15 years of age, her life was taken, when she had so much more to live for.

she was such a lovely girl, many people did not know her well but were still devastated about her death.

‘She had so many friends, who will miss her alot, and im sure everyone whos lifes she has influenced will miss her alot to. Everyones thought from stowmarket seem to be with her family now.”

Another pal, who took to Facebook to pay tribute to the school girl, said: “Always looked beautiful didn’t ya lils (: I’m missing you and that lovely smile of yours :’( xx”

While another friend added: “Such a beautiful girl. Heaven definitely gained an angel today xxx”

It is believed Lily, who studied at the 1,022-pupil Stowmarket High School in Suffolk, collapsed at around 2.30pm and both the ambulance service and police officers were immediately called to the scene.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “On arrival the girl was found in a critical condition.

“Ambulance, the doctors and the critical care team from the air ambulance worked extensively to treat and stabilise the girl but following everyone’s best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A spokesman for Suffolk County Council confirmed that teachers had tried to help the teenager while they waited for the arrival of the emergency services.

He said educational psychologists would be going into the school today to speak with students.

Suffolk Constabulary said: “The girl was on a trampoline when she complained of pain in her head and then collapsed and died. Paramedics believe she may have suffered a cardiac arrest.”
