Paul McKeever, head of the Police Federation for England and Wales (PFEW), died in hospital on Thursday night (January 17th).

He had been admitted to hospital a few days prior to his death, which is thought to have been caused by an embolism.

PFEW offered its condolences to Mr McKeever’s wife and family, with Steve Williams, chair elect of the organisation and successor to Mr McKeever’s position, extending his personal commiserations.

“My deepest sympathy and that of the entire Police Federation, is with his wife and family at this time. He was a truly outstanding Chairman, and most importantly a truly outstanding police officer and man,” he said.

Mr Williams went on to describe Mr McKeever as a “true gentleman” and stated that he will be remembered for his reputation and leadership by all who knew him.

John Tully, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, also offered his condolences – noting that Mr McKeever had been nearing retirement following more than three decades of service.

Mr McKeever had been a prominent member of PFEW for 20 years, after joining the Metropolitan Police during the 1970s.
