A very wet wedding!

While millions in the UK and worldwide have been thrilled watching the pomp and tradition of the Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, in China there was a very different sort of ceremony.

Yesterday on May 1st, a total of 66 pairs of newlyweds held a collective wedding ceremony several meters underwater at Polar Sea World in Binhai, north China’s Tianjin Municipality.

In our picture, Wang Bing (R) hands his bride, Liu Chunxia (L) a bunch of red roses during the bizarre under water marriage.

Polar Sea World aquarium is one of the major projects in Tianjin as well as being the biggest polar aquarium in China.

The distinctive shape of aquarium is similar to a whale with a depth of 32 meters and a construction area of 42 thousand square meters.

This unique aquarium was designed by American RPVA company, which once participated in the design of Disneyland. It also included design ideas of Japanese Dentsu advertising company.

Visitors can enjoy close contact with polar marine animals including white whale, polar bears, tame penguins, agile otters, huge sea lions and marine life in an artificial polar world.
