How Md Lutfur Rahman Serves His Community Through Legal Advocacy and Community Engagement

Md Lutfur Rahman knows what it’s like to arrive in a new country with almost nothing in your pocket but aspirations for a better life. After immigrating to the UK in 1996, the Bangladesh-born aspiring lawyer took the most challenging route towards his dream. Working at fast food restaurants like Burger King by day and studying legal books at night, he slowly saved enough money and knowledge to study law at the University of London, where he received his Bachelor of Law degree with Honors. After stints at legal practices such as C.K. Solicitors and Malik & Michael Solicitors, he turned his focus towards helping members of the immigrant community whose situations paralleled his as a newly-arrived immigrant.

Rahman initially pursued this goal by working as an immigration caseworker at the Universal Legal Centre in London, which helped carry out the sector-based immigration scheme instituted under Prime Minister Tony Blair’s administration. After helping more than 3,000 immigrants successfully come into the country, Rahman went on to found WorkPermitCloud, a multi-purpose company serving as a legal firm, a business immigration firm, and an HR tech company. Through this company and its associated subsidiaries, including WPC Accountants, WPC Lawyers, WPC Global DMCC, and WPC HR, Rahman has worked with both immigrants and immigrant-owned businesses to create more jobs and empower clients to run successful businesses that are making positive contributions to their respective communities.

Rahman is also more directly involved in the community through his multiple philanthropic efforts in fields such as food services, health, and religion. His efforts at supporting the UK’s catering industry and his sponsorship of events like the Asian Curry Awards, the Curry Life Awards, and the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards have earned him recognition. He also serves as the registered legal advisor for the Bangladesh Catering Association. For his efforts in this field, he received the “Community Hero of the Year” award at the Asian Food and Restaurant Awards in 2023.

In the field of health, Rahman has contributed to organizations such as the Tafida Taqeeb Foundation, which helps support children with brain injuries, along with Beani Bazar Cancer and General Hospital and Medics Across Continents. He has also contributed towards the development of healthcare facilities and initiatives in his birth country of Bangladesh, which includes his donations to NRB Hospital and sponsorship of several free medical camps.

As a dedicated Muslim, Rahman has donated to places of worship and community, such as Cambridge Central Mosque, the first mosque in the world with an eco-friendly design, as well as local organizations such as Woodford Muslim Cultural Centre, Grays Mosque, and East London Mosque. He has also supported initiatives such as the Ramadan Family Commitment and the National Quran Competition, which was organized by TVOne.

Md Lutfur Rahman’s story embodies the perseverance of an individual who has created his own career from scratch. Starting with humble resources in the UK, he increased his educational levels, completed his degree in law, and utilized his experiences to improve the lot of others who are facing the same challenges he overcame in the immigration system to contribute meaningfully to the society of the UK, which he today serves with his immigration services offering solutions with his platform, WorkPermitCloud, which he founded.

Rahman’s dedication to his community is not only seen from his professional side but also in other aspects of his life. His involvement in healthcare projects, both within the UK and in Bangladesh, clearly demonstrates his dedication to the cause. Moreover, his contributions to his community and religious groups, be it in the form of financial help or participation in their events, reflect how he has been able to implement his ideals in his daily routine. Rahman’s tale shows how people can achieve their dreams through hard work and a passion for helping others. His story provides an inspiring model for immigrants looking for ways to help their communities using their hard-earned knowledge and talents.
