A father-and-son criminal tag-team have been fined for going door-to-door selling fake – MATTRESSES.
Fred Stanley, 56, and his son, Elias Stanley, 30, had both admitted displaying the “Dreams” logo – despite having no affiliation with the firm.
Stanley Jnr also pleaded guilty to displaying the fake logo on the side of the van they used to lug the mattresses around and was fined £1,840.
Stanley Snr was fined £1,680 for his role in the operation.
Councillor Daniel Anderson said: “This father and son team have made their own beds, now they must lie in them.”
Tottenham Magistrates Court heard how Enfield Council’s trading standards team had been called to the police station to examine 21 possibly-fake mattresses which were seized from Stanley Jnr.
The due were then arrested and had their van confiscated.
Councillor Anderson said: “Displaying well known logos to advertise counterfeit goods is not only misleading but is also a criminal offence.
“The Stanleys led their customers into believing that they were buying genuine ‘Dreams’ mattresses when, in reality, they were instead purchasing cheap fakes.”
