How You Can Keep A Good Relationship With Your Landlord During Tenancy

It is important that you and your landlord maintain a good relationship throughout your tenancy so that you both feel able to communicate with each other well and a good relationship with each other usually means any issues, at either end, can be quickly resolved or even avoided. Your landlord has certain responsibilities and duties of care whilst you are renting their property and you also have a duty to remain respectful of the property and to the landlord at all times – if both landlord and tenant stick to their promises, then everything should run smoothly.

You should be made aware of the property rules, that the landlord expects to be followed, before you move into the property. These can vary but can include things like no pets (or limitations on owing pets, such as restrictions on breeds or quantity of pets) and making no changes to the property such as decorating. It is imperative that you stick to these rules because if you do not, it will upset your landlord who could start to wonder if you are the right tenant for their property and it can even end in your eviction.

Keeping your property clean by Premium Clean is also essential when renting a home, so that at the end of your tenancy you can leave it in the condition that you found it. Try to keep on top of general cleaning, such as vacuuming, dusting and cleaning the bathroom/s and kitchen weekly and also ensure that you look after any upholstery if your property came with furniture. Here at Premium Clean we can help you with the upkeep of the property – we offer fantastic carpet and upholstery cleaning and we even have a carpet repair service with our qualified carpet technicians so if any damage or discolouration should happen to your carpet during your tenancy, give us a call and your landlord need never know. We can also provide an in depth end of tenancy clean which will leave your property sparkling clean and hopefully ensure you will receive your deposit back.

If you ask a landlord what is important for them when choosing a tenant, they will almost always include someone that is going to pay the rent on time. No one wants to be involved in chasing money and if rent is not paid on time, this will affect your relationship with your landlord and could also affect your credit rating and any future landlords could be put off. Agree a date to pay your rent and make sure you stick to it. If there is an exceptional reason that you may be late paying one month, ensure you communicate with your landlord as early as possible about this and try to come to an arrangement that suits you both as well as possible.

If and when you come across any issues with the property, such as a faulty washing machine or a problem with the boiler, make sure you advise your landlord as soon as possible so that they have time to solve the problem. Remember, these unfortunate things happen in all properties and it is not your landlords fault and also remember to try and stay patient and give your landlord a reasonable time frame to fix the issue, particularly if it will involve calling out a professional such as an electrician or plumber, as we all know that this can take more time than we would like.

The famous saying ‘treat others as you wish to be treated’ can be applied to most situations in life and this includes the relationship with your landlord. Think how you would expect tenants to treat a property if you were renting a home out. Always be polite and remember to communicate well with your landlord.
