Lola Karimova Tillyaeva and her husband, businessman Timur Tillyaev, have a well-deserved reputation for giving back to society. Since 2002, they have worked tirelessly in numerous non-profit organizations. The longest running of these, the You Are Not Alone foundation operates in their native land of Uzbekistan and has changed the lives of thousands of young, disadvantaged young people and their families. Initially, it organized funds for the upgrading of mercy homes and orphanages across Uzbekistan. However, as Lola Tillyaeva and Timur Tillyaev’s experience grew so too did their ambition. Today they are able to provide entire, purpose-built new facilities. You Are Not Alone designed, constructed, fitted out and staffed new centers with the best trained people and the latest equipment. However, the underlining goal is constant – “to ensure that vulnerable children grow up in a caring and loving environment.”

Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva and Timur Tillyaev’s also use their foundation to deliver better outcomes in education. Since 2003, they have been focused on seeing to it that disadvantaged kids are not held back by a lack of parental support or a poor learning environment. Thousands of kids have passed through their Educational Center and benefitted from a range of programs aimed at improving their schooling outcomes. Furthermore, an impressive number of these have gone on to study at prestigious universities such as the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the Tashkent branch of the Moscow State University and the National University of Uzbekistan.

Lola Tillyaeva and Timur Tillyaev are also involved in numerous programs which provide medical care to those who would otherwise struggle to afford it. In some cases, they contribute to the improvement of patient care by providing new and upgraded medical equipment. In others they form partnerships with foreign NGOs to take advantage of specialist care they would otherwise be in no position to offer. As Timur Tillyaev explained, “for the past two decades my wife and I have been involved in various charity projects in Uzbekistan and internationally to support the vulnerable and to support initiatives that help people.”

Now based in Los Angeles, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva and Timur Tillyaev were shocked to see the devastation wrought by the COVID pandemic. Once again moved to act they saw to it that some of the shortages of the UCLA health system were relieved. As the President of UCLA Health and CEO of the UCLA Hospital System explained, “We were facing a shortage of face shields for our front-line healthcare workers, and thanks to the kindness and generosity of the Tillyaev Family, UCLA was able to secure enough shields to equip our entire patient-facing workforce”

Help of this kind has been critical in battling the health crisis. Lola Tillyaeva and Timur Tillyaev will be having an on-going relationship with the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital as Timur is now a board member there. In Johnese Spisso’s words, MPA, and president of UCLA Health and CEO of the UCLA Hosptial System, “Tim’s dedication to improving the health of children globally is truly admirable, and we are grateful to have his leadership, active participation, and philanthropic support.”
