Kurt Rosenberg Brought his Film to Falmouth for a Special Screening

Musician and composer Kurt Rosenberg was able to screen his song and accompanying short film, The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth at the Phoenix Theatre in Falmouth on Thursday, August 4th.

Complimentary tickets to the screening were open to all. Falmouth based Will Keating of male vocal group,The Oggymen, was in attendance.

The screening showcased the animated short as it follows the journey of a seafarer who falls in love with an island maiden, but ultimately has to lose this love in order to return to Falmouth, where he set sail. The song follows the themes of love and loss, and emphasizes the importance of enjoying moments while you have them, and later turning them into memories to cherish.

The song shares musical themes to old sea shanties from the British Isles, a genre that Rosenberg is highly familiar with. Though he can compose anything from folk, pop, and ballroom to jazz music, there is a special place in his heart for celtic songs.

His idea for the song came to him when he was staying in Falmouth and admiring the moon. The title, The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth popped into his head, and he began to sing and craft the song’s melody. After working on perfecting the song months later, it was finally composed and ready to be turned into a short film.

Speaking about the film, Rosenberg explained “I was enjoying supper at the Falmouth Hotel, when I looked out the window and saw the full moon floating above the sea. I thought to myself, ‘The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth’”. As he was returning to his hotel room, the melody became apparent, which led Rosenberg to calling the home answering machine back in the U.S. to record the song.

Rosenberg went on to describe how “When I got home, as I was going through my messages, there it was … the genesis of The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth. A couple months later the song was finished and ready to be recorded”, added Rosenberg.

Having exposure growing up such as listening to Celtic Music from Scotland and Ireland, it influenced Kurt and his compositions, leading to the inspiration for writing the melody and lyrics for his ode to Scotland: the original song, “Highland Home.”

Kurt is a Member of both Clan Scott Scotland and the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA), and a Patron of Scottish Heritage USA. Future projects include refining the music and lyrics for his original musical “For the Lack of Laura,” and producing a music video for “The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth,” a song reminiscent of old sea shanties from the British Isles.

His music spans across many genres and each piece of his music conveys a different emotion, thought, or message. With each of his compositions, Rosenberg wishes to create melodies that deeply touch his audiences.

Following the success of The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth, Rosenberg continues to compose and produce projects, and he is well on his way to becoming internationally known as an accomplished composer and a sought-after musical collaborator.
