Police have cordoned off a church as they investigate the suspected rape of a 28-year-old woman.
The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday (Tues) morning in the yard of St Nicholas Church in Brighton, East Sussex.
A 30-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.
Police have cordoned off the area while forensic examinations are carried out.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault at St Nicholas Church yard in Brighton.
“The offence, against a 28-year-old woman, is alleged to have occurred at the location, off Dyke Road, sometime before 3.30am on Tuesday, May 10.
“The area had been cordoned off while a forensics examination was carried out.
“A 30-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody at this stage.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police.”
